December 31, 2002 on 12:01 am | In Blogger | No CommentsToday after getting up we went all over town trying to find Auntie Lee a birthday present. We found it. Then I found Becca her birthday present as well (Becca’s birthday was Dec. 25—happy birthday, babe ~_~).
Then we hung out for a bit…then Mom and I took the dog for a walk (Grant enjoyed it). Then we had a starparty. Erin, Sean, Sarah, Brian, and Jane were there, along with Joey. Lol when we initially were driving to the parking lot, Joey and I literally raced down Cat State Park. Erm, Joey, who was driving the Gas Guzzler of DOOM, was trying to break his old record, 65 mph, down the road to the parking lot where we stargaze.
We broke 70 before we hit the picnic area.
Well, the starparty was loads of fun. Erin baked cookies for us (she’s such a sweetie!!), and we froze to death of course. We saw seven shooting stars before we decided it was cold. That was one wish for all of us, plus two which we cast out into the world for whoever needed it most. We also watched Sirius and one of the planets (I’d guess Jupiter or Saturn) rise from behind the mountains. It was so pretty because the atmosphere was so thin and sans the blinding motion of spinning particles in a phenomena called heat. It was like watching crystals rise over a 180 degree sillohoute and then sparkle. And meanwhile Ursa Major was falling under the heavens, and as the legend goes, this big bear was dying again. His red blood seeped onto all the world—the fall leaves, namely. In the spring he’ll rise and be renewed~
Then we finally decided our numb feet deserved a break, for once. So, we headed over to my house and Mom had some hot chocolate ready for all of us (well, we don’t have snow, but it was definately close enough, and just as wonderful). After some hot chocolate and tea and much discussion of college life, it was time for everyone to go home. So, we waved good-bye and exchanged some hugs. Then Eva, Joey, Jimmy, and I played more board games: Clue and By Jove. Clue was funny because Joey was going to pass through the ballroom to the kitchen, but I convinced him he might as well take a guess at the ballroom, he did, and he won. We were laughing. I won By Jove…
Whoa, lookie at the time! Night all!

December 29, 2002 on 10:09 pm | In Blogger | No CommentsToday we saw Sweet Home Alabama. I strongly recommend you do not see it. I love Reese Witherspoon, but I hated all the harsh stereotypes coupled with the predictable script.
Then I Simmed for awhile…hehe I’m in an addicted stage of the Sims…the Sims can be like playing with dolls. Then my brothers, sister, and I played Risk until Jimmy had all of Asia and Australia and I took out some of his countries and he got mad and quit. I think he could’ve easily won though, ’cause I wasn’t going anywhere. Me, I was just a desperate dope trying to take on the behemoth brother who had Asia…hey, it ain’t called Risk for nothing!
The Two Towers is quality…I love the Palantir!!!

December 28, 2002 on 11:27 pm | In Blogger | No Commentsposuers? lol it looks like enetation’s gone French on us, folks…I think we’ll just sit tight for a few days and let it do its own thing, but if it doesn’t work after a week or so, I’ll try to fix it (famous last words…).
I always hate it when enetation doesn’t work…I feel like I’m getting cheated out of the comments section of my blog or something.

December 28, 2002 on 10:49 pm | In Blogger | No CommentsSo we went to the Park Mall today to bask in the crowds fresh from their after-Christmas flurry. Mom went to Talbot’s and bought a few things; I used my gift certificate to Aborecrumbie and Finch. I’ve decided I hate Achoorombie and Fitch. They play really loud BOOM BOOM music and make dumb engineers because there are only four dressing rooms for ten people with ten items of clothing apeice. Oh well, I did get a really cute pair of courdoroys from Aftershavie and Cringe.
Then we went to the Metro Grill. I had a really good pasta there, it was yummy ~_~
Then we came back…then Mom and I went to Target and Radio Shack. At Radio Shack we were trying to get this AC Adapter for my tummy tv, but they didn’t know which AC Adapter to sell us, so we headed back…then I played the Sims for a bit, then Mom and I went over to Mom’s gym. There Mom and I went for a swim in the pool. We also went in their sauna and steam room and hot tub. That was very jolly, and I came out with my muscles VERY relaxed.
After dinner Mom and I dropped off Joey at Brian’s house, then we went back to Radio Shack, with the tummy tv in hand. They sold us a $15 adapter, which we thought was funny because the tv only cost Mom $20 at Fry’s. Well, the good news is, the tv works and it actually gets better reception than my brothers’ tvs (they both have those fancy UHF doo-hickeys on them, too).
Then Mom and I went to the airport to pick up Eva, who had just spent the past few days in San Diego with Ernie and his family. Eva said that their family is very nice, very open, that they love the dress, they love this, they love that. They do seem like loving, lovely people though–they’re throwing Eva a bridal shower and invited me, so maybe this next semester I’ll get to go to San Diego and visit the admiral.
When Eva came back, Joey greeted Eva with “Couldn’t get enough of us, could you?”

December 27, 2002 on 10:05 pm | In Blogger | No CommentsBlech blogger’s being dumb and won’t let me republish my archives…I’ll try again before signing off, but it doesn’t look like it’ll happen tonight XP
I just came out of a warm bathtub after shaving my legs. I also just changed my sheets. Clean sheets, shaved legs…mmmmm I’m in for a sensual treat tonight ~_~
This afternoon we went and saw Catch Me If You Can. I thought it was good though the last twenty minutes kind of dragged out so that Speilberg could ONCE !spoiler!again have another movie with a happy ending. The best part had to be the James Bond thing though.!spoiler! Tasha, Steph, Leeann, sorry once again that I missed ya! Oh well, it was good seeing you at B&N! We had a gift exchange these past two days or so. I did Boxing Day yesterday, and Leeann gave me a beautiful Japanese calligraphy set; Tasha gave me a stuffed squirrel I named Wee! in honor of this Internet video; and Steph gave me these really elegant earrings and some chapstick I wore today (it smells yummy ~_~). I feel loved.
After dinner Dad, Joey, and I went to coffee and then to Winterhaven. Winterhaven is good, and we’ve learned that the best time to go is AFTER Christmas where the crowds are gone. Yay! I’m anti-crowds.

December 26, 2002 on 12:15 pm | In Blogger | No CommentsIt is an appropriate thing, to be sure, that in today’s decade the two most popular singers are two bald white men named Eminem and Moby. Even more appropriate is that the two are the most alike in many ways while remaining the two greatest enemies today’s era has known.
Today’s decade is one of opposition and puzzles. We are a population that just passed through three centuries of enlightened thought. Enlightened thinkers predicted that the year 2000 would be the start of a great era where human progress would be inevitably at its apex. For example, in Arthur C. Clarke’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, human beings were portrayed as the greatest measure of all things, reaching a new enlightened state in the monolith of evolution. Unfortunately, the average individual of today’s era looks upon these great thinkers and replies with a sad laugh, because the truth is that this modern era is one of ambiguity. Far from progress, America is at the brink of war; Europe is becomming an unsuccessful socialist state; Asia is fallen into communism; and tens of thousands of individuals die in Africa of starvation on a daily basis. If the year 2000 is a great year of progress, perhaps we truly are lost.
Those of today’s decade are confused in other ways. Never had the history of human beings been full of such liberal thought and action. Campaigns to save world hunger, animal rights, the rainforest, and child abuse. On the other hand, this world is also full of issues such as Columbine, Sept. 11, terrorism, and the like. In short, we are a progressed state with some of the most heinous acts in history underlying this progression.
Now, Moby is a great singer (hell, he’s my favorite artist, ever). His music is very upbeat, singing of progress and the grand state of nature. For example, “We Are All Made of Stars,” based off Carl Sagan’s perception that “we are made of star-stuff,” celebrates the greatness of humankind’s progress in science. “God Moving Over the Face of the Earth” is another great song about what it means to be a Romantic human in progressed state. Moby’s music portrays progression, just as his views on the war and animal rights portray liberalism.
On the other hand, Eminem is another hit singer whose music sings of the opposite of progression: retrogression. “Cleaning Out My Closet (I’m Sorry Mama),” “My Name Is,” and “I’m Shady” are all examples of Eminem guiding us backwards through enlightenment. Eminem is a man who drags us backwards as well, his wife attempting suicide, his children growing up abused, and so forth.
Both singers are very alike and very different at the same time. For one, Eminem loathes Moby because according to Eminem, Moby is a bald pussy. Moby is simply too much a pansy for Eminem’s taste. However, in his own way Moby dislikes Eminem as well. Though in his pacifist way Moby wishes Eminem no harm, he obviously cannot stand to be in the same place as he, showing that Eminem’s dislike for Moby is, if anything, returned. For being so alike, the two are polar opposites.
Moby and Eminem, though enemies, are roughly similar in other ways. Both are white bald men of approximately the same age, and both sell their sole selves as popular images in today’s world. Eminem recently claimed People magazine’s Top Most Influencial Men in the World; whereas Moby, rather than being popular in America like Eminem, remains extremely popular in Europe. Moby resides in New York, the formal capital of modernity; Eminem lives in Los Angeles, a rising new capital of modernity. The music of Moby and Eminem combine the modern pop culture with old lyrics; for example, Moby’s “Natural Blues” which was based on a slave song during the Civil War era.
While both remain popular and alike, both singers also stay dissimilar in their music and viewpoints. Moby is a liberal mind singing for progress; Eminem is more conservative and sings of lack of progress. One if hopeful for humankind and one is dishopeful.
Moby and Eminem remain the symbols of modern glory. On one hand we tend to be liberal, pacifist selves who are willing to prevent anything—even war. On another hand, we are far more brutal human beings, not caring if we progress or not so long as capitalism prevails at the top of human history, with Social Darwinism being the way to survive. Our era is Moby, and our world is Eminem. We embrace both men because ultimately, we do not know what we want. We wish to be pacifist electric-musicians, and we wish to be white rappers. To me, it is a paradox~

December 25, 2002 on 10:24 pm | In Blogger | No Commentsah ha ha ha I lied—Merry Christmas!
This morning we did the presents thing. I got an iron, a Joan of Arc figurine, a couple of new tops, a tummy-tv, a copy of Who’s Who Among American High School Students in which I’m listed, stationary, two pens, gift certificates, a Moby “Play” DVD (which I already watched), and a necklace. I feel very loved indeed. To Eva, I gave her a copy of Gone With the Wind (Dad got her the same thing, so now she has two copies), Joey and Jimmy, a card game called “Set,” Dad, the extended version of Fellowship of the Ring, and Mom, Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I hope they feel loved.
After presents, I showed the entire family how to play Set. Mom, Dad, and Eva got confused on just the solids alone, but Joey and Jimmy caught on and turned out to be quite good at it (which is good because that was their gift!). Then we watched Jimmy’s new Star Wars: Episode II DVD and headed over to Auntie Angela’s house (she’s not my real aunt, but she’s close enough). Cousin Mark got in Mayo med school, so we were very proud of him because it’s always rated among top ten med schools in the country.
After feasting the kiddies (cousin Mark, Andrew, Michelle, and their “real” cousins: Jonathon and Alyssa) played a furious game of Risk until it was time to go. Frankly I think Jimmy would had won because he just kept fortifying the entire game from Australia and he was about to strike by the time it was time to go.
When I got back I watched my Moby DVD which is VERY awesome (I still haven’t watched all of it, but I watched “Give an Idiot a Camcorder” and the main music videos). Then I read TTT for a bit and now am here and should go to bed!
love to all! once again, merry christmas!

December 24, 2002 on 10:43 pm | In Blogger | No CommentsI’m probably not blogging tomorrow. But, for those wondering what we do every Christmas, Christmas Eve involved us going to a high mass (that’s when the entire mass is sung in Latin), and then we had our traditional Christmas feast late at night. Then tomorrow we’ll do the presents thing. Then we’re going to Auntie Angela’s house (she’s not my real aunt, but close enough).
love to all!
