January 30, 2003 on 11:57 pm | In Blogger | No CommentsHappy Dress-Up Thursday (meaning I dress up on Thursdays—today I wore my black skirt with ruffles and a black shirt—I looked adorable!)!
This evening we got an awesome lecture from Erik Loyer for Advanced Web Design. I recommend if you are to check out anything from his site, it would be “Story Problem” (under “Other Works”). If you have loads of free time, check out Chapter 16 of “Chroma,” it’s really cool. I like this guy.

January 29, 2003 on 8:32 pm | In Blogger | No CommentsAlthough I’m halfway done with my reading, I still have probably 75 pages or so for Art 142 tomorrow and maybe another 150 pages of reading left for Core and probably 50-75 pages for History, plus a new math homework set…and I’m happily about halfway done with my reading! Yay!
I still have trouble imagining that only nine days ago I was back in Tucson…Scripps is such a different world. Both worlds are great, but they’re both very, very different as well.
Did I mention I have a cold? Yes, frog in my throat, cough, stuffy head…Trevor, I hear you tonight!
Dance was fun tonight. We’re learning more basic moves for Cha Cha, including Chase and sidestepping. I think that one quotation from “Everybody Has the Right to Wear Sunscreen” is correct:
“DANCE. Even if it’s in your own living room.”
Totally true.

The Classic Star Wars Test
Talya, you’re Luke Skywalker
“I want to learn the ways of the force and become a Jedi like my father.” You must be a dreamer brimming with ambition, that’s why your Star Wars type is Luke Skywalker. Like the farm boy-turned-Jedi Knight, you have the potential for greatness.
No matter what others may tell you, it’s an inner voice that keeps you on the straight and narrow path to success. Just because you’re the chosen one, doesn’t mean you have to be a goody-goody. There’s plenty of fire in your belly, especially when it comes to defending your family tree (even if you’re not exactly sure who’s who). But rest assured with your ability to see through to the truth, your answers will never be far behind.
^oooh lookie lookie I learned a new tag today^
Ayyye, I’m busy as hell. Oh well, my philosophy is that my parents are paying for a good education, so I might as well make the most of it.
My prayers go out to the missing Harvey Mudd student. We’re all very upset right now.

January 27, 2003 on 9:56 pm | In Blogger | No CommentsStill doing Art 142…I should be done within the hour. I have SO MUCH reading to do along with it! Yay for college, where you average a book a week per class…
In other news, Core II was fun today; it looks like it’ll actually be a promising class. I like Harper because he has a cool English accent, and Scott-Kakures is of course a sweetie. We watched Do the Right Thing as an introduction; it was good (another mind-fucker). Then we discussed it thereafter.

January 26, 2003 on 8:41 pm | In Blogger | No CommentsThis morning at church was a grand reunion with everyone…I saw Chris, James, Mark, and of course Emily C. was there, too. It was awesome! Fr. Wayne wants us all to go to the Catholic retreat in Malibu, but I don’t think I will because that’s the weekend after Parent’s Weekend, and I don’t think it’d be a good idea to drop two weekends like that while in college…maybe next year though! There’ll also be a retreat in the fall next year, so there we go (we didn’t have one this year).
Then I had math with Thandiwe, then for dinner we went to Harvey Mudd for “Sundae” Night (they serve ice cream sundaes on Sunday nights—DIVINE!!!!). We (me, Caitlin, Mandy, Chloe) had a lot of fun, ran into a few Mudd friends, (Grant, Amanda, Rachel), and met a few more (Gary from Jamaica). We all got in a huge conversation and ended up staying there until sevenish!
Hour and a half dinner…it’s amazing to me how in Europe that would be considered a fast meal. The problem with Americans is that we refuse to sit down, converse, and enjoy a meal together! No, it’s always rush, rush, rush. In Europe they expect that one table will last the entire evening; here a table can be turned around in 45 minutes. No wonder Americans are fat: we eat constantly and quickly. Our stomachs are like landfills that continue to garner more and more garbage~
After that, I walked on the treadmill (because I was hyper) while reading A Midwife’s Tale, it’s taking a new turn in which men are beginning to take over medicine. Then Caitlin and I were going to watch The Simpsons on my tummy tv, but ID4 was on instead, and we didn’t want to watch that. Oh well, it’s exciting that we get all these new stations!
Anyway, I’m off to shave my legs!
PS I ESCAPED THE SUPERBOWL! NYAH NYAH NYAH NYAH NYAH!!!! (I couldn’t resist)

January 26, 2003 on 4:37 pm | In Blogger | No CommentsSo, this afternoon Thandiwe and I were doing math in the Browsing Room when we came across this one problem that was REALLY difficult, and we just COULD NOT do it! It was so annoying! We were trying just about everything out there, and it was bad, and we couldn’t see how one thing even related to the other. Then I thought, well, wait, at position (100), velocity is 0 ft/s, therefore c would equal -16t at a certain position. We plugged it in, BOOM it worked.
It was so beautiful. I wanted to cry.
