October 28, 2004 on 10:43 pm | In Blogger | No CommentsI went to a talk today about the politics of globalization in Mexico and was very surprised at how moving the speaker is. Life is shit down there, you know? I just wish I could do something about it–it’s just in Baja California, for Christ’s sake, and it’s so sad. The talk was also about the environment and how crappy gas and electric companies are to our friendly foreign neighbors by polluting our air. Stupid America. No wonder the world hates us.

October 27, 2004 on 5:10 am | In Blogger | No CommentsWhy is it that everything about all-nighters/late nighters seem so cold? Everything about them is cold. The temperature in the dorms, whether or not heated, are cold, and it makes me feel shivery. I don’t care how much I love my work, the subject matter seems impersonal and cold (as do the professors assigning whatever work it is). The world seems cold, for everyone is asleep and there’s no one to talk to, not even on AIM. My brain is empty and cold because I am half-asleep. My heart longs for the coldness to end, my body craves for the coldness of my bed, I do not have the energy to change into my pajamas because it is too cold to change out of my clothes…so I think I will take off my wet and cold shoes from the rain and curl up not in my bed but my cold red blanket and try vainly to warm up or at least let the day burn off the cold…and if I’m up later with reading after this, maybe the dawn of the day will burn off some of the cold, but prior to that it’s time to listen to the cold silence around me and pry my own tired cold brain some more.

October 26, 2004 on 1:51 am | In Blogger | No CommentsToday just didn’t stop. Being crappy, that is. But I have the RA team and Mandy and Kevin by my side, and a tally of 5 cups of tea by the end of tonight (maybe…I still have Spanish to do). And the RA’s concluded today that stapling facts to condoms would not be a good thing…and it was good. :)

October 25, 2004 on 1:51 am | In Blogger | No CommentsI bought Eva a gift certificate on amazon.de, which DEFINITELY made for an experience. At first I had the page translated on Google’s translation service, but when I got to the secure portion of the website (where you’re using your credit card) it died, which makes sense so that it’s more secure, but it was funny ’cause then I used babelfish to translate the last, i.e. my kreditkard information. My ecard read something like, “Happy birthday, Eva! I hope this gets through okay, and I’m sorry if this card says something offensive in German on it.” Hehe, well, happy birthday to my sister, who is studying on the Fulbright in Germany currently for those of you who don’t know why I would go on amazon.de for her.
This weekend was good. Friday Kevin and I watched Seven Samurai, then Saturday after catching up on some work Kevin and I went to 21 Choices and then played Bomberman. Sweet, Bomberman. I like exploding things :evil grin:
Loads of work this week, but nothing else is new aside from that. I’m missing Tucson folk this week a lot, so hugs go out to all of you :)

October 22, 2004 on 1:20 am | In Blogger | No CommentsI wrote a post that was more or less the same as yesterday’s post, which made me realized how redundant I can sound on this blog. Which is to prove my initial disclaimer: this thing is pretty superficial, so if you need to catch up on the real me in life now and then, don’t be scared of IMing or calling or emailing me once in a while, right?

October 21, 2004 on 1:19 am | In Blogger | No CommentsBahhh there are too many meetings when you’re an RA. Far too many.
Aww tomorrow (Thursday) is my mommy’s birthday…and Joey will be home for her (he should’ve come in tonight) since he’s on Fall Break. I can’t imagine flying in from Chicago, but Mom wanted him home so he came. Very cute.
I don’t feel like doing anything more tonight, so bed should probably be next. I say if you don’t want to do work, sleep. Then in the morning you’ll feel screwed enough to want to do it or something.
Kevin and I went to a cool talk this evening…here’s a link if you’re interested.

October 20, 2004 on 2:18 am | In Blogger | No CommentsIt’s been raining nonstop for several days now, and it’s supposed to keep going until Thursday or so. I love the rain.
Today was good…Kat and I spent a rainy afternoon learning TeX in the computer lab together, so now our homework sets look like textbooks. Sooo pretty. I’m very proud of us.
Hmmm class is tomorrow….wow, I can’t believe we’re a quarter of the way through the schoolyear already. But I’m happy because I learned Eva and Ernie are coming home for Christmas after all :)

October 18, 2004 on 1:51 pm | In Blogger | No CommentsI’m back from Palomar Mountain….mmmmm it was so gorgeous. For you astronomy buffs, there’s the highway to the stars there, along with beautiful scenic views…all and all a great trip. Even though it rained the next day and we decided to head back, it was still way fun, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
Anyone wanting to see photos of this semester and other semesters, along with the Palomar Mountain trip, email me at nstclair@scrippscollege.edu and I’ll send them your way, if I haven’t already.
