June 29, 2005 on 2:17 am | In Blogger | 1 CommentI’m getting my hair cut tomorrow, and I was going to add highlights, maybe. Unless I sleep through the appointment (a distinct possibility), I’ll post pictures if you want. Or load them on Snapfish.

June 26, 2005 on 11:31 pm | In Blogger | 1 CommentHmm, not much to report today. Angela and Michelle went home this morning. I woke up early and watched 1776 but fell asleep and missed the signing of the Declaration of Independence. So, I guess you could say I slept through history :P

June 26, 2005 on 2:07 am | In Blogger | No CommentsWell, apparently I’m wrong on the account that Gryffindor might be the Half-Blood Prince, but I still think he could be half-blood based on the village thing.
I went to see a movie about ballroom dancing….I thought my headache went away but it looks like the Tylenol just wore off or something. I had fun at Steph’s tonight :)
Night all.

June 25, 2005 on 12:52 am | In Blogger | 3 CommentsI FUCKING WARNED YOU!
First, off, there’s a major question going around as to who the Half-Blood Prince is. Some people reckon it’s Dean Thomas but notice that JKR says on this same page that “Now I don’t think his history will ever make it into the books.” Kind of shoots down the idea of Dean Thomas as a half-blood prince.
Others reckon it’s Hagrid. I don’t think he counts as “half-blood” but rather “half-breed” (there is a distinction–notice the way Umbridge treats him in Book 5). Really, I doubt it’s anyone from the modern wizard world at all, at least in England, just because “prince” definitely implies royalty, and the wizards have the Ministry of Magic. The only exception would be if it was royalty on the Muggles’ side, but where’s the fun in that? Or, another question, how does it help the plot in the book?
The Half-Blood Prince is MOST CERTAINLY NOT Harry or Voldemort. Tom Riddle counts.
So who do I think could be the Half-Blood Prince? I think first, that we need to go back in time, based on what I said about royalty. I’d be surprised if she introduced a new character this late in the series, leaving….well, basically Godric Gryffindor. Which would make sense. JKR says that there’s a lot of material given in COS about the overall series which she took out and saved for Book VI. COS has many themes about “Heir of Slytherin” and the history of Hogwarts that built up the past. What else would she omit? There are also a lot of unanswered questions about old magic and how it works. Perhaps something that the Hogwarts founders know tells us something.
One other thing: Godric’s Hollow. The place where Harry’s parents were killed is apparently a village. JKR did say in an interview that Godric’s Hollow was connected to Godric Gryffindor. She also said that with the first movie, there’s a hint in the scene where Voldemort kills Lily. That hint is that the Potters were in hiding at a Muggle house. So maybe Godric Gryffindor grew up in a Muggle background, implying he himself was a half-blood.
There’s only one other thing that kind of sets me off about Godric Gryffindor: prince of what? He was just some founder at a school, and he had a Sorting Hat, not a crown. But maybe there’s something yet to be found out in the old codgemunker.
Other ideas I’ve heard for the Half-Blood Prince include: the prince of Egypt mentioned in Book 1 by Quirrel (which could also tie the connection with Bill’s job at Gringotts nicely), Dumbledore (his name always pops up in any discussion since he’s everyone’s favorite character), Seamus Finnagun, Felix Felicis (three chapter titles were released, and that was one of them), and many keep cropping.
Now, on to more important things. I think probably the most intriguing thing about the HP books coming up is this certain hint JKR gave us concerning Voldemort. Ironically it was also one I was wondering while going through the books, but here are the hints. She said we should be asking two questions: not “why did Harry survive?” (we _know_ that), but “why did Voldemort survive?” (as the Avada Kadavra curse was rebounded onto him). Second, we should be asking why Dumbledore didn’t try killing Voldemort in the Ministry….apparently he half-tells why (that there are some things worse than death), but that’s not really it. I was very intrigued by these questions. If you think about it, there’s not that much we know about Voldemort’s power or what happens to a wizard after he dies. Why does Voldemort fear death so much? We know he already lives a half, cursed life because he drank unicorn blood, though that curse may have disappeared when he was restored to power in Book IV. So, what else does Voldemort have to fear? How did he manage to cheat death? I will be thinking about this a lot while going into Book VI, probably moreso than the question of who the Half-Blood Prince is.
Shipping. I think Ron and Hermione are bound to happen, so you might say I’m a Ron-Hermione shipper (”shipper” comes from the term “relationship” for those of you who may not know). As for Harry, JKR did say that he’ll run into love a bit in the next few books, and well, Cho is out of the picture. It kind of makes me wonder who that leaves though, although I think Ginny and Harry could be hilarious (probably a big no though from Ron).
Random stuff we all probably could guess. I think Grawp will tone down. I think Ginny will be a Chaser for the Gryffindor Quidditch Team. I think Harry, Ron, and Hermione will all do decently enough on OWLs to get into the NEWT classes they wanted, though Snape will NOT treat Harry right in the NEWT classes. I think we’ll find out more about Snape and more about Dumbledore’s “look of triumph” in book IV. I think we’ll learn more about death and more about Lily’s backstory (seems like we’ve heard enough about James, but we’d like to know what made someone like Lily fall for him). I think the Weasley’s Wizarding Wheezes joke shop will be a hit among Hogwarts students. I also think that Dumbledore and Harry will become even closer than before. We’ll learn more about the Department of Mysteries (I wouldnt’ be surprised if James and Lily were indeed Unspeakables, but we know James inherited a lot of money, so he and Lily never had to worry about money [heir to Gryffindor, anyone? :P Sorry, I'll stop with that age-old theory]), ’cause there are a lot of unexplained things, like what’s behind the veil.
Warning: there may be more later.

June 24, 2005 on 3:28 am | In Blogger | No CommentsDude, blogger added a picture feature. Hmm, I have nothing to upload. Except maybe….nah, just kidding.
Grant and I were on our walk and got caught in the thunder and lightning. It was kind of scary because we were almost a mile from home and the thunder was right over us. I didn’t notice the clouds coming in because I was spacing out and listening to Smashing Pumpkins and wondering what owning a horse would be like.
I went up an entire level in the course of a day on Gaming Force, which is quite amusing because usually I prefer to just read on the boards and don’t post much. Guess I was feeling talkative :)

June 23, 2005 on 1:00 am | In Blogger | No CommentsOii, I better blog before stupid Sprint decides to crash again….Sean and I think it’s from the monsoons, but it’s why I didn’t blog last night, in any event.
I finished Prep. It’s not that good; I thought Cruel Intentions was at least funnier, if you can compare it to anything. The main problem was that the main character wasn’t that likable. But it does at least offer insight to a boarding school; I’d have to ask Adelle how accurate it is when I get back.
I new things at Target today, making me feel quite spoiled and happy.

No, for the rest of you, Sean was actually being very kind, it’s Novell I hate, but there’s no surprise there. Anyway, to make a long story short, there’s a new template on my website portfolio.
