cuddles
November 27, 2007 on 10:12 pm | In personal | No CommentsSo, we left Emmy home alone over Thanksgiving break for three days and three nights. When we came home, she meowed and meowed and made a little dance for us because she was thrilled we returned. Which I thought was really cute. Then she purred and rubbed herself against us and licked our noses for a good hour. We watched a movie that night, and I had never held or dealt with a happier living being than she.
Well, she was still overly affectionate all day Sunday and Monday. But I’m surprised that even today she has been overly affectionate and wanting to be held. Today I woke up, and she had snuggled under the covers with me, her head peeking out, and she was purring in my ear. It’s such a soothing sound when you’re falling asleep. And today, I had a cat in my lap at breakfast, dinner, while I graded and lesson planned…and yes, while I blog at this moment. I guess it’s nice to be appreciated, but now I feel guilty for going away!
loop holes
November 26, 2007 on 9:54 pm | In THEBOOK | No CommentsStudent: Ms. St. Clair, I got a chance to look at your class policies this weekend, and I found zero loop holes. I guess that means I need to do work in your class.
grading is bad for the teacher’s health
November 18, 2007 on 12:43 am | In THEBOOK | No CommentsTalya [to advanced math students]: I have back your quadratic equations homework set…
Student 1: Whoa, you graded it already?!
Student 2: Didn’t we just give it to you? And the polynomials packet too?
Talya: Yes, but I had to get them back so that you could study for your test…
Students: But…you must be really sleep-deprived!
Student 3: Isn’t that bad for your health?
AMC 8
November 14, 2007 on 10:49 pm | In personal | No CommentsLong weekends aside, it seems like we’re finally settling into a bit of a routine in my classes. My students took the AMC 8 yesterday; I can’t wait to see how they all scored. It’s kind of fun and scary to be the proctor of a big important test like that; you feel so official giving out scantrons and reading the instructions to students. Also, I had to put the tests in a big official envelope and mail it via certified mail. The postwoman at the post office seemed very curious about my official envelope, but I didn’t tell her what it was for. It was my little secret. Another little secret I had was I feared that by some freak accident I messed up on instructing the kids with the test and they all bubbled in their answers wrong or something. Or that I somehow didn’t register us right, and we’re being scored as some other C’side School located in the boonies in Idaho. I wonder if that’s how SAT proctors feel when mailing back tests to ETS.
