May 30, 2003 on 11:54 pm | In Blogger |Well, it’s not that it’s a bad job. It’s just that I know it too well. There’s such a thing…
But it’s a nice job in that I can’t take it too seriously with such a fun group of people to work with (namely Bree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m SO GLAD you’re working there this summer!), when the worst that can happen to you is a crappy drawer or a busy crowd, but even that isn’t too bad because it keeps your mind occupied and a crappy drawer can mean you sold a lot (or a manager messed up). Well, I guess the worst that could happen was like last year when we had that stupid manager and the soda fountain broke–that was a crappy day. Probably the crappiest. So, I guess if the worst thing that can happen to you is a broken soda fountain, I’d say that’s not a horrible job.
The soda fountain did not break today.
Instead, they clocked me in, but I could not log into the computer system because the managers forgot to create an account for me. So, the first two hours or so I did absolutely nothing except on occasion help the ushers or play tag with Breelan. That was rather fun. The theater was a nice little funhouse during that time; Finding Nemo is opening with a BANG! Linette told me they sold over 5,000 tickets before 5p, and we sell about that by 3p on July 4 (so that’s INSANE for a normal Friday).
So yes, by the time I got to log on, the crowd ceased a little, and I got to remember all the little things and had to learn the little changes as well. Like the Super Combo. That’s the same, but there are more of them, and the Super Combo costs $8.22 instead of $7.72. And now you can do an upsell on the Bucket Combo. What’s with that? Even stranger, they sell ice cream and pretzels.
Ken says they’ll be remodeling this summer; we’ll be getting new carpet (FINALLY! There is waaay too much puke and nacho cheese and popcorn spills on that old carpet)…so what is the deal? I still say, “Welcome to Loew’s, would you like to try a Super Combo?”
But…they no longer have a bucket trolley for the ice buckets. And the stockroom has very little walking space. And the Apocalyspe Drawer no longer has its little quirk…
And Steven instead of Will works beside me. And Jessica is a different Jessica–a newbie associate instead of a manager who has been there for eons.
And Brian is back, but this time he is more like an old friend than a scary supervisor.
